Airline reportedly cancels 787 order

June 17th, 2006

Xiamen Airlines became the first carrier to cancel a firm order for Boeing’s 787 aircraft, said Flight International, citing an unnamed person close to the airplane maker.

The Chinese airline canceled three 787 orders as part of a review, which may include switching the 787s for six 737-800s, the London-based trade publication said on its Web site.

Boeing’s latest online report, which records orders for the year to June 13, shows that the number of 787 orders has fallen by three. The number of canceled 737 orders has also declined from 10 to four, according to Flight.

Xiamen is the only airline to have placed a firm order for three 787s, all -8 variants, said Flight, citing Boeing’s online May order book.

The airline was not available for comment, according to Flight. Boeing declined to comment, the report said.
